11 varieties of plants you can grow in your own home

The indoor succulent has become a cult favorite on social media. They are well-known for their elegant looks and easy care. What makes a plant a succulent, you ask?

A plant that has fleshy leaves and is adapted to store water. Most of these plants are from areas with hot dry seasons or deserts. This gives you an idea of what conditions they require.

Succulents can come in many sizes, shapes and colors. While most succulents are grown for their foliage interest, some will also grow pretty flowers under the right conditions. Their love of dry soils and high temperatures makes them some of the best indoor plants, and while most will not tolerate cold, wet winters, many can also be grown outside in summer, provided they are in pots with drainage holes.

You will need to keep these plants indoors in order to maintain their beauty.

If you’re using succulents for your indoor plant ideas then any container will need drainage holes in the base in a 50:50 mix of loam-based, peat-free compost and horticultural grit. Your plants should be watered over a sink. Do not wet them and allow the moisture to drain off before putting them in a waterproof pot. This will prevent succulents from rotting.
