Joe Haeg, an offensive lineman for the Browns, only played one snap this season. Fans might not be disappointed. The team offered him a multiyear contract to provide depth at the position, as a veteran with a lot of experience. He could join a new team next season, as you can’t have enough offensive linemen.

Haeg is carrying a 2.5 million dollar cap next year. If the team decides to cut him, it will allow for 2 million in cap room with only $500,000 of dead cap.

The team signed Jakeem Grant He was a great returner and spark for special teams until he broke his Achilles in training camp. Grant is thirty years old, and is coming off an injury that takes a lot of time to heal from. It is a difficult question to answer as an older player if Grant will be able to regain his speed, agility and elusiveness.

Donovan Peoples Jones is a solid punt returner. Jerome Ford shows flashes on kick returns. Jakeem Grant might never play in a Browns game because there are replacements and a cap saving of 2.2 million.

John Johnson’s experiment in Cleveland has just not worked out and it’s likely time to move on not just because of the cap savings. Johnson hasn’t been the top talent he was for the Rams and at times has had his effort questioned.

The Browns can save 9.75 million if Johnson is removed with a post-June 1 designation. They may attempt to keep Johnson depending on the new defensive coordinator, but that is unlikely without restructuring his contract.
