49ers QB Brock Purdy is in rarified air for his first playoff start

Brock Purdy overcame a shaky start in his playoff debut to piece together an impressive performance that doesn’t happen often in the NFL playoffs.

Purdy completed 18 of 30 throws for 332 yard with three passing touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran a rushing touchdown. This stat is only four other postseason QB stats from at least 1970.

Patrick Mahomes
Joe Montana
Aaron Rodgers
Matt Ryan

Mahomes did it with the Chiefs in last year’s divisional playoffs against Buffalo. Ryan did it during the 2016 playoffs while he was playing for the Falcons. Kyle Shanahan was his offensive coach. Rodgers did the same thing in 2011 for Packers. Montana was first to do it in Super Bowl XIX when he was with the 49ers.

It’s worth noting Purdy’s 30 attempts are by far the fewest of the group. Montana’s 35 attempts are the next fewest.

It’s also worth noting it was Purdy’s first ever playoff start. He was a bit shaky at first, but he completed 9 of 11 for 185 yards with two touchdowns and a rush score in the second period to lift his stat line into rare air.
