After $108,000 in donations from Good Samaritans, a Walmart cashier aged 82 can finally retire

Walmart cashier, Rory McCarty, was able to retire when a Cumberland, Maryland business owner helped raise $108,000 for the US Veteran. Rory McCarty, a business owner, has a large following on TikTok which helped him increase awareness for Warren Marion, the 82-year-old.

After seeing Marion’s story, McCarty felt inspired to help her. similar success story TikTok, and set up a GoFundme account to help the elderly gentleman. Here’s how and why he raised the money. Marion’s response?.

Bug Boy Fame

McCarty runs an extermination company called Bug Boys, who has 300,000 TikTok fans, who seem to enjoy the creepy crawly videos he posts. “I post bug videos,” McCarty says. “Termites are a serious problem. Fascinating close up videos. My TikTok is a success and I have been able to get work in four different states. Some of my videos got seven, eight million views. I have a large following because of that. I have the largest TikTok audience of any pest control site. I now have 270,000 followers.

Lucky Meeting

McCarty had a good conversation with Marion at Walmart after meeting him. McCarty states, “Here’s this man and he’s still grinding and I can barely find good help.”

“Here’s a man, 82. I was fascinated and he was friendly and approachable. I grabbed my camera, and immediately started filming him. I also asked him questions.

Making people happy

Marion was delighted to meet McCarty. Marion states, “At work, I’ll have casual conversations with all my customers.” That is part of dealing directly with the public. Even though the store is huge, many people are already stressed. It is my job to make them happy, and that is what I do.

McCarty felt inspired to help Marion by a TikTok fundraising where a senior lady was able to raise $100,000 through crowdfunding. McCarty said that the lady had only 70 followers on TikTok. Because of the video, she went up to 130,000 in one week. It would be great to help someone in our community through this platform.”

GoFundMe launched

McCarty set up a GoFundMe to help Marion. As a business owner … I was astounded seeing this little older man still grinding. McCarty stated that he works eight- to nine-hour shifts on the GoFundMe page. Marion has worked at Walmart for 16-years and said he enjoys “keeping busy and keeping his bills paid.” The crowdfunding efforts were successful—McCarty met his fundraising goal in a few days and people continued to donate money after the fact. “It’s amazing!” Marion says. “What can I add? It’s beyond my comprehension.”

Christmas Miracle

The fund had raised more that $110,000 by Christmas Day. “I didn’t plan on doing it,” says McCarty. McCarty said, “I simply set the ball rolling. It was something I never imagined would happen. It received 400,000 views on the day that I posted it.” Marion states that she is still struggling with the issue. Marion says, “Even though my head is clear about what’s happening. Why was I chosen by him? God is the answer.”

McCarty says, “I did not do anything unusual.” McCarty adds, “Anyone could do it.”

Viral fame

Marion, who is now retired from Walmart, remains in shock. Marion says, “This thing went viral.” It was shared all over the globe. He even called from Ireland. He gave $3,000. He said that people loved him Butch. Rory and the others who donated so much are my greatest thanks. I can only tell you that the Lord has blessed my life for the things I did in my youth. At 82, this will allow me to pay my bills and my house. I won’t have to pay any utility bills. I will be able to travel to Florida whenever and wherever I want to visit my kids. “I’m extremely, very fortunate.”
