Britain demands accountability from the UN for human rights violations in Sudan
GENEVA (Reuters – Britain urged U.N. Human Rights Council at an emergency session in Geneva, on Thursday, to demand accountability for the violence in Sudan. Sudan rebuffed this request by saying that the events in Sudan were an internal affair.
Andrew Mitchell, Britain’s Minister of State for Development and Africa, called on the 47-member Council to “send out a message of united concern and horror” in advance of a possible vote. Sudan’s ambassador said to the council that “what’s going on in Sudan is a domestic affair”.
