Alabama softball falls to Tennessee 10-5 in opening game of WCWS

The 2023 Women’s College World Series did not get started the way that Patrick Murphy and the Crimson Tide had hoped for as the Alabama softball team lost to the Tennessee Lady Vols 10-5 in Thursday’s action.

Tennessee struck first in the bottom of the second inning with four runs. Alabama responded with a pair of RBI singles in the next half-inning to cut the lead to 4-2. Tennessee quickly went back up by four, as a two-run home run from Jamison Brockenbrough in the bottom of the third stretched the lead to 6-2.

Tennesse would go on to outscore the Tide 4-3 through the remainder of the contest.

With the loss Alabama falls into the losers bracket in Oklahoma City and will take on Stanford in an elimination game on Friday night.
