Anita Pointer, a member of Grammy-winning band the Pointer Sisters, has died at 74

Anita Pointer, who was a member the Grammy-winning band the Pointer Sisters, died Saturday following a long battle with cancer. She was 74.

Roger Neal, her publicist, stated that Pointer was “surrounded” by her family at the time she died in a statement.

Pointer’s sisters Ruth and Fritz and his granddaughter Roxie McKain Pointer released a joint statement. It stated that while we are saddened by Anita’s passing, we can be comforted knowing that she is with Jada and her sisters June, Bonnie, and at peace. She was the one who kept us all close and connected for so many years. We will all carry her love for our family’s legacy. During this difficult time of grief and loss, please respect our privacy. Heaven is a loving, beautiful place where Anita is.

Anita Marie Pointer was born in Oakland, Calif. on January 23, 1948. She grew up singing with her sisters in Reverend Elton’s church. Pointer quit her job in 1969 as a secretary to create the Pointer Sisters together with her siblings, Ruth, Bonnie, and Ruth.

Their achievements are well-known. Their 1973 debut album, “Jada,” featured “Jada”, which was inspired by Jada Pointer’s daughter. Jada passed away in 2003. The song reached No. It reached No. 11 on The Billboard Hot 100.

Bonnie and Anita wrote “Fairytale”, which is part of their album This is a lot!After the song’s 1974 release,,, became the group’s first Grammy-winning track. It helped the Pointer Sisters move from the country charts into the pop charts.

After appearing in the 1976 film Car Wash With actor Richard Pryor as their partner, they transformed their sound with Richard Perry, record producer. They produced hits like “Fire,” He’s So Shy,”and “Slow Hand.”

Their 1984 remixed version “I’m So Exccited” reached No. 9 on the Hot 100. Pointer and Ruth were guest judges in 2013 on the Hot 100. RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5: Jade Jolie and Coco Montrese, competing drag queens, lip-sync “I’m So Excited” during season 5.

1983 was the most-sold album by The Pointer Sisters. Breakout. The group won three Grammy Awards in total and was given a star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
