Babitha: Via the Gentle
1. Solely Honest
Babitha: ‘Solely Honest’ tells the story of a twisted love triangle, of kinds, between a fish, a fisherman and a cormorant. The cormorant desires the fish, the fish desires the fisherman, and the fisherman desires to avoid wasting the fish from the cormorant simply so he can catch the fish himself. There’s a lesson in there someplace, or maybe it’s only a story about unrequited love.
2. Evening and Day
B: ‘Evening and Day’ was written through the throes of lockdown and is a tribute to my upstairs neighbour. This was a distant collaborative experiment between myself and pedal metal participant, Jy-Perry Banks (Steelin Hearts) – my first co-writing expertise.
Impressed by David Lynch’s work and the music of Angelo Badalamenti, the observe dips right into a glittery 80s palette of dream pop and comfortable rock with melancholy hues.
3. Glad Particular person
B: ‘Glad Particular person’ pokes enjoyable on the unavoidable, generally unflattering phases we undergo after a breakup. Everybody is aware of this era gives the right alternative for reflection and self-development, but it surely’s straightforward to let the bitterness take over. Hopefully this track serves as a reminder that we’re all flawed and fragile creatures, simply making an attempt to be joyful.
4. Ants | 5. Misplaced in a Daze
B: ‘Ants’ and ‘Misplaced in a Daze’ doc the tender starting and tragic finish of a relationship.
6. At all times
B: ‘At all times’ borrows sounds from the normal nation palette and is a tribute to my late father.

7. Brighter Aspect of Blue
B: ‘Brighter Aspect of Blue’ was impressed by the advanced relationships between completely different generations and people with poor position fashions. Nobody is destined to be like their mother and father, and all of us maintain the capability to interrupt the mould.
8. ‘How the Time is Tickin’’
B: Like ‘At all times’, ‘How the Time is Tickin” is a tribute to my later father and was impressed by the sounds of conventional nation music.
9. In My Personal Time
B: ‘In My Personal Time’ is extra of a punchy breakup anthem.
10. Ghost
B: ‘Ghost’ ventures into pastiche territory, taking part in on typical Western tropes. The story is informed from the point-of-view of a ghost who was murdered by her lover.
11. Nothin’ Left to Burn
B: ‘Nothin’ Left to Burn’ is a track I wrote after I was feeling moderately doubtful concerning the state of our politics and the way the way forward for our planet would unfold. It was a strategy to treatment the apathy that tends to creep in when one ponders such issues.
12. Fade Away
B: The album ends with ‘Fade Away’, a observe that dips right into a heavier psych-rock sound. I needed to create one thing moody and cinematic with numerous layers and textural parts. I believe it could pair very well with an epic slow-mo scene in an motion movie or online game.
I needed the album to have a definite ending, such as you’re within the closing chapter of a guide or waking from an extended dream. The piano outro, improvised by Russell Fitzgibbon, conjures up a mystical, contemplative state, providing a second of reflection.
