Recent release in controversial prisoner swap between Russia and the United States Brittney Griner Her first statement since her release was shared. Griner was released by Viktor Bout, an arms dealer who was caught with cannabis oil cartridges in Moscow.

Following her family’s request to President Joe Biden Brittney Griner posted a statement to Instagram, expressing their gratitude. She posted a photo of herself exiting an aircraft and hugging Cherelle Griner. WNBA Star wrote: “It feels so great to be home!” It has been a struggle at every turn for the last 10 months. I fought to keep my faith, and the love of so many of your loved ones kept me going. “From the bottom my heart, I thank you all for your support.”

Griner also thanked everyone who helped to organize Griner’s release, including the Biden–Harris administration. “President Biden brought me home. I know that you are dedicated to bringing Paul Whelan home, and all Americans, too. I will make every effort to help you through my platform. Everyone who played a role in my return to America is encouraged to keep their efforts going. Every family deserves to feel whole.”

Brittney Griner concluded her statement by stating that she was looking forward to returning on the court and plans to continue playing for Phoenix Mercury this season.
