Browns hire Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator

The Cleveland Browns Jim Schwartz was hired as their new defensive coordinator. the team announced Wednesday.

Schwartz, a veteran defensive coach, spent the last two seasons as a defensive assistant. Tennessee Titans After a five year stint as the Philadelphia Eagles‘ defensive coordinator. He was also the head coach of the Detroit Lions For five seasons starting in 2009-13

Schwartz, who started his NFL career as a personal scout and research assistant for the Browns, is happy to be back in Cleveland. under Bill Belichick from 1993-95. Schwartz became a coach for the Baltimore Ravens Before taking over as the Lions’ head coach, he played for the Titans. He was the head coach for a season. Buffalo BillsIn 2014, the team’s defensive coordinator. a consultant for the NFL’s officiating department In 2015, before joining the Eagles’ staff.

Schwartz will take on the task of fixing the Browns defense which has fallen behind in 2022. This past season, Cleveland allowed 22 points per game and 14 yards per game. It finished fifth in yards and 13th overall in points allowed.

The Browns possess solid defensive pieces, such as a defensive end. Myles Garrett, linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah Cornerback Denzel WardYou will need to buy more pieces for the defensive end Jadeveon Clowney unlikely to return. Schwartz did that before, when he turned the Eagles into a top-4 defensive team that won a Super Bowl in two years.
