Demons move forward with a new coach

Jan. 14—Crowder has been battling its way through the 2022-2023 season, and doing it all with a new head coach on the sidelines.

Ben Collier, who took the decision to lead the Demons in this season’s football season, said that they have already experienced successes despite the challenges they faced.

The Demons have been plagued by injuries since the start of the season. Senior Royce Florenzano was also injured and had to undergo recent surgery.

Collier stated that Royce Florenzano was hurt during the Stuart game. He had surgery over Christmas break. “So he will be out.”

Florenzano, who averaged 10.7 points per match, was part of the McAlester News-Capital All-Area Teams. But just as they lost one player, the Demons gained another with the return of MN-C All-Area First Team member Sevryn Mills — who averaged 21.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season.

Collier stated, “You know his play style and it changes the dynamic of the team.”

Collier stated that he is proud to have a Demon team that finds ways to help and is looking forward to seeing how they do. Crowder will now have to compete in the 2023 Pitt 8 Conference Tournament.

The Demons were third in the boys team last season and they are expected to win the tournament after taking wins over Pitt 8 foes Haileyville, Indianola and Haileyville.

Crowder will be hosting the Demons’ home game this year. Crowder will open up the 2023 Pitt 8 Tournament facing off against Canadian at 8 p.m. on Monday — just more than a week after the last meeting between the two schools.

Collier stated that the Demons have been pushing forward despite all they have been through. With the addition of new members to their ranks, they will be prepared to face whatever comes next.

“It’s almost a new season,” he stated.
