Doc Rivers criticizes Sixers for their poor defensive effort during Thunder’s loss

PHILADELPHIA–The Philadelphia 76ers were looking to pick up another win at home before heading out on the road as they played host to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.

The Sixers were riding a winning streak of two games and wanted to continue that. However, Shai Gilgeous Alexander scored 37 points to help the Thunder defeat the Sixers 133-114. Oklahoma City shot 51.2% from floor, made 14 triples and went 31-for-33 from foul line.

“Blow bys,” said coach Doc Rivers. “They lived in the paint. They got what they wanted. They came with the right spirit and we didn’t.”

The Thunder scored 52 points, as Gilgeous Alexander was constantly getting in the paint and forcing Sixers to collapse.

“We didn’t compete defensively like we normally have,” added Tyrese Maxey. “It shows in the score.”

As the Thunder were constantly causing trouble, the Sixers were in foul trouble night after night. Joel Embiid committed five fouls, TyreseMaxey committed four fouls and James Harden three.

“I thought a lot of the fouls were because we were not down, we were not ready, we were not in position,” Rivers continued. “This was just a bad effort on our team. Everyone, me included. We have to take responsibility and be better next game.”

The Sixers will now travel to West for five games, beginning Saturday against the Utah Jazz.
