Jail superintendent Jerry Townsend has said both “manipulated the locking mechanism on the rear exit door,” NBC affiliate WRAL of Raleigh reported.

The sheriff’s office has said it was notified around 4 a.m. Monday that both inmates were missing.

Marin-Sotelo has been arrested in Guerrero state, Mexico.

In a tweet, the Charlotte office of the agency announced the capture. “The investigation is still ongoing to determine the exact movements,” it said.

Callahan is not in custody.

Marin-Sotelo, who pleaded guilty to a federal charge of possession of a gun by an illegal alien in December, was scheduled to be sentenced on June 22. He escaped before his sentencing, which had been set for that date, according to records.

An FBI agent in an affidavit wrote that Adriana Marin Sotelo, 31, had allegedly given a Ford Mustang car to an unidentified individual, who then arranged to park the vehicle at the jail prior to the escape.

Adriana Marin Sotelo has been charged with conspiring to aid in an escape. In court documents, her relationship to the inmate that escaped is not noted.

In court records, a federal public defender is listed to represent her. However, he did not immediately reply to a Thursday night request for a statement.
