Footage shows drug dealer fleeing officers, before being caught and seized by dogs
Watch: Drone footage captures a drug dealer running from police after a raid at his house.
This is the dramatic moment a drug dealer attempted to escape officers through a window during a house raid – before he was caught by a police dog.
In September 2012, a tip-off led to a raid of a drug den at the Old Pear Tree Inn, Bulwell Lane, Old Basford. Large quantities of cocaine, and cannabis were found inside.
Drone operators saw Leon Smart, a drug dealer, climbing out of a bathroom window to run down an alleyway.
Despite his attempts to hide officers were directed at his position by ground officers and police dogs who chased him across a busy road.
Smart, 36, was spotted climbing onto a car’s roof, but was rescued by a police dog.
As he was being arrested, he was dragged from the car and he was found with large sums of cash that he was carrying.
During the raid at the historic pub, officers discovered drugs, a Taser and bundles cash.
The Grade II-listed pub that was opened 140 years ago closed its doors permanently in 2021. However, drug dealers took over the establishment months later.
Smart, a resident of Deptford in London, admitted to possessing Class A and B drugs with the intent to supply them and possessing a prohibited firearm.
He was already in prison for nine-years when he made his appearance at Nottingham Crown Court Tuesday.
Sergeant Steve Willetts, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We will never hesitate to follow up reports of drug activity we receive and will act robustly to shut down any drugs operations being run within our communities because we understand the devastation they can cause.
“This was a great example of several of our teams, including the drone unit and police dog section, working together to ensure a criminal couldn’t escape.
“As Smart found out to his cost, you can run but you can’t hide from the police, with the footage filmed by the drone showcasing how officers effectively communicate with one another to close in on a target.
“I’m pleased to see Smart is now facing up to the consequences of his actions and I hope he uses his time in prison to change his life for the better.”
