Gambia coup attempt foiled – government
According to the Gambia’s government, it stopped a coup attempt.
A statement stated that four soldiers were arrested and three alleged accomplices were still on the run.
It is not clear who was behind Tuesday’s attempt at overthrowing President Adama Barrow, who won a second term through elections last year.
The Gambia, a peaceful West African country that is well-known for its wildlife and beaches, is very popular with tourists.
In a surprise election win in December 2016, Mr Barrow beat President Yahya Jammeh, a long-serving politician.
Although Mr Jammeh was forced to flee Equatorial Guinea for his political views, he is still an important figure in The Gambia.
