A gas leak explosion kills six family members in SW Pakistan

QUETTA, Pakistan (AP) — A gas explosion in southwest Pakistan killed a family of six, including four children, police said Sunday.

The husband, wife and their four children died at their home late Saturday night in Quetta’s Satellite Town area. One family member tried to light a heater connected to a leaking tube, but it failed to ignite.

They were between the ages of 4 and 14. The family lost no one.

Quetta Civil Hospital officials said that relatives of the victims had transferred the bodies to Quetta Civil Hospital.

The temperature in Quetta, Balochistan Province, can drop as low as minus seven degrees Celsius (19 Fahrenheit) at nights. Most households are dependent on gas cylinders to heat their homes because they don’t have access to main supplies.
