Georgia OL Devin Willock dies in a crash involving a vehicle, while two others are critically injured
The school announced that Devin Willock, Georgia’s offensive lineman, and Chandler LeCroy, a recruiting staffer, were killed in a car accident in Athens on Saturday night.
The statement stated that “The tragic loss of Devin Willock, a football student-athlete, and Chandler LeCroy, a football staff member in Georgia,” was devastating for the entire family.
“Devin Chandler was a special person who meant so much for the University of Georgia, our football team and our athletic department. We ask you to remember their families and keep them in your thoughts during this difficult time.
According to Athens-Clarke County Police, the one-car accident occurred at 2:45 AM ET on January 15. LeCroy’s 2021 Ford Expedition was driving when it veered off the road and crashed into several trees and two telephone poles. Willock, a sophomore redshirt student, was reportedly killed by emergency responders when they arrived. LeCroy was taken to hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterwards.
Two additional passengers were also in the car, a 21 year-old man, and a 26 year-old woman. Both of them are part of the Georgia football team. Both of them were seriously injured in the accident and are now in stable condition. No further information, including their names has been released.
Just hours after Georgia’s 2022 National Championship win against TCU, the crash occurred at Sanford Stadium. Willock, a New Jersey-born native, played in every Georgia game, even the College Football Playoff games.
