Gut-Behrami claims Brignone super-G at St Anton is not true

Swiss Olympic champion Lara Gut-Behrami denied Federica Brignone a quick-fire World Cup super-G double at St Anton on Sunday.

Brignone, an Italian woman, became the first to win 21 races at the elite women’s alpine ski competition in Saturday’s Tyrol super-G.

Gut-Behrami came in third, but she won the race 24 hours later over a trio of Italians headed by Brignone. They were 15 hundredths off a second behind.

Marta Bassino completed podium.

This was Gut-Behrami’s 36th World Cup victory and her second of the season, following her huge slalom win in Killington.

Brignone’s weekend at St Anton was a success, lifting her to the top in the discipline standings.

Mikaela Shirin was absent from the super-G Show in St Anton, but she has a healthy lead in overall standings.
