Christmas will arrive quickly. This is what Christmas means to Black families. a lot Family time is important. And while there’s no shortage of things to do, it’s nice to throw some lighthearted family fun in there. As your family thinks about food, presents, and all the traditions of this holiday season, you’ll no doubt want to watch some great Christmas movies. Representation is important, and children of colour need to see others who look like them creating art and entertainment.

Amazon is a global company that has a hand in almost everything. Prime Video, an Amazon streaming service, has many great movies and specials with Black actors. There are many titles you can watch during the holiday season.

Amazon Prime members can get the streaming service for $14.99 per month. Black Christmas specials, movies and specials include the following:

The Perfect Holiday

This is a charming tale starring Gabrielle Union Morris Chestnut and a story about a young girl who is divorced from her mother. She turns to a department store Santa hoping that he can help her find a new husband.

This Christmas

This movie stars Chris Brown, IdrisElba and Regina King. It’s about a spirited Black family coming together and dealing with their issues.

Almost Christmas

Another star-studded film featuring Danny Glover, Kimberly Elise, Gabrielle Union, and more, this movie is about a father who asks his family for one holiday gift—for them to get along.

The Preacher’s Wife

This is the classic story of a preacher overworked. It stars Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington. A mysterious stranger named Dudley appears to answer his prayer for salvation of his church and his marriage.

Black Nativity

This Harlem version of Langston Hughes’ play features Forest Whitaker and Angela Bassett.

Holiday Rush

Romany Malco portrays a widowed radio DJ and his children. They change their extravagant lives and learn to live comfortably during the holidays.

Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey

This film is a classic, featuring Phylicia Rashad and Forest Whitaker. It also stars Anika Noni rose, Anika Noni Rose, as well as Forest Whitaker. In it, a toymaker is betrayed and finds new hope when he’s introduced to his granddaughter during the holidays.

A Christmas Family Reunion

This Family Reunion special features the show’s regular cast, including Tia Mowry Loretta Devine. A group of sisters attempts to maintain their composure before a Christmas pageant at the church. Their grandpa teaches them a valuable lesson.

Hot Chocolate Nutcracker

This documentary features Debbie Allen as an actress, dancer and choreographer, singer-songwriter/director, producer and former member. President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities. It follows the students at Allen’s dance school as they prepare for her annual Hot Chocolate Nutcracker performance.

The Best Man Holiday

This sequel to 1999’s star-studded movie is available. The Best ManAfter nearly 15 years, a group college friends reunites to celebrate Christmas. The film brings back all of the original cast members, including Morris Chestnut (Taye Diggs).

BET+

BET+ is a streaming subscription service that offers over 2,000 hours of Black content, from great Black creators. There are so many original titles that have been created with Black families in mind, it’s hard to not find something you like!

A Wesley Christmas

Dorien Wilson stars as Jasmine Guy and Jasmine Guy plays the three siblings who travel to their childhood home in order to spend Christmas with the entire Wesley Family.

The First Noelle

Terrance and Noelle have been friends for twenty years. However, they decide to start dating after Terrance moves to London to work. Terrance is now back in Atlanta with Noelle, his new girl. Noelle is determined that Terrance will be back.

Holiday Hideaway

Carly is the queen and reignitor of holiday celebrations. However, a mistake leads her to a hideaway that teaches her about the importance family, forgiveness, fighting for love, and the importance of loving.

Christmas Clapback

Each year, three sisters fight for the chance of winning the Christmas Church Cook-Off competition. The sisters have to choose whether they want to work together or separate when a social media influencer enters.

Hallmark Channel

Hallmark is well-known for their feel-good movies. Christmas is an especially special time on the channel. Recently, they’ve put in a lot of work to diversify their titles and increase Black family representation.

Rochelle aytes plays Erin as the lead.

A Gingerbread Romance

This story is by Tia Mowry. It follows an architect spending Christmas with a baker’s daughter. He inspires a desire to give her a home.

Holly Robinson Peete portrays a single mother who discovers that letting go can benefit her. autistic son have room to grow.

Lifetime

Lifetime is another winner of the feel-good category. Lifetime Movie Network, which was launched in 1984, is known for its focus on women viewers. However, the content has diversified over time. These days there’s something for the entire family, making it a great place for viewers to watch new Black Christmas content and older movies alike.

Merry Liddle Christmas

Kelly Rowland plays a woman who tries to make her dysfunctional family look beautiful for the holidays.

Miracle in Motor City

The main character Amber, played by Tia Mowry, finds herself in trouble when she promises to create her church’s annual Christmas pageant. Through the help of Motown legend Smokey Robinson, she’s able to make it happen.

Baking spirits bright

Mira Varma loves her family’s bakery despite its declining popularity. Mira fights to preserve the love of her family’s bakery even when her parents hire someone to boost holiday sales.
