Hillside Collapses Near Johnny Mathis Home in Hollywood Hills: “Very Concerning”

Johnny Mathis’ house was damaged by a landslide that occurred in his neighborhood during heavy storms in California.

PEOPLE has confirmed that a hillside in the vicinity of Mathis’ Hollywood Hills estate collapsed on Jan. 10, as a representative for the “Misty,” singer told PEOPLE.

The rep stated that while the slide was concerning, nobody was hurt.

According to the rep, other than Mathis’ hillside or a nearby Jaguar car there was no damage to any other property. The rep clarified that the vehicle was not the singer’s, but “the car of a very kind neighbor of his.”

They tell PEOPLE that once a City permit has been issued, dirt and debris can be safely moved and repairs can begin. “Thank goodness it has stopped raining for at least a while.”

Mathis’ second representative said, “At the moment, the full extent has not been determined. This is currently being evaluated.”

They also confirmed that Mathis did not own the Jaguar and it was just parked on the street.

ABC7 reported that Mathis’ house was without power and that the pipes were exposed.

It is not known if the foundation of his house was in good condition or if it was damaged.

Newsom claimed that officials are working around the clock to be “as proactive as possible” during the press conference.

The lawmaker stated that he was seeking a presidential emergency declaration in addition to the state of emergency already declared. According to a report, the declaration was approved in the evening of January 8. White House press release.
