Neil Young has released a statement on the passing of his longtime Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young bandmate David CrosbyWho is it? died yesterday (19 Jan. 19), at the age of eighty-one. Young and Crosby stopped speaking in 2014 after Crosby made disparaging comments about Young’s wife Daryl Hannah, but his tribute focuses on the iconic music the pair created together over the course of 40-plus years.

“David is gone, but his music lives on,” Young wrote on his web site Neil Young Archives. “The soul of CSNY, David’s voice and energy were at the heart of our band. His songs were a testament to what we believed and it was always an exciting experience to be able to play together. ‘Almost Cut My Hair’ and ‘Deja Vu,’ and so many other great songs he wrote were wonderful to jam on and [Stephen] Stills and myself had a lot of fun as he kept on going. Graham’s singing [Nash] Their duo spot was a highlight in so many of our shows and memorable.

“We had so many great times, especially in the early years,” he continued. “Crosby was a very supportive friend in my early life, as we bit off big pieces of our experience together. David was the catalyst to many great things. Jan and Django (his wife and son) are my heartfelt condolences. We send you lots of love. David, I appreciate your spirit and your songs. We love you! I remember the best times!”
