Insight into what Ran Carthon’s approach, philosophy will be as Titans GM

Ran Carthon has been named Tennessee Titans’ new general manager. But, what can the team really expect from the 41-year old executive?

Carthon, a man who grew up in a football household, brings 15 years of experience and knowledge as a former talent evaluator and runningback. He’s well-respected around the league and is considered a rising star.

Per MMQB’s Albert Breer, Carthon’s philosophy isn’t that different from head coach Mike Vrabel’s in that he prioritizes toughness in players, which fits Tennessee’s desired identity.

Breer also noted that Carthon would challenge Vrabel. That is important if Titans want him bring a new voice to the franchise.

Although Vrabel’s challenge is important, Carthon is also a great collaborator. Amy Adams Strunk, the owner, stressed this when she spoke about the search to find a new general manger.

From Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky:

Carthon is known for being a great collaborator. Amy Adams Strunk certainly likes this quality in the replacement for Jon Robinson.

Three people who knew Carthon spoke with me and they all pointed out his strong ability to lead teamwork.

Carthon is also a great player in terms of building relationships and finding players. NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe.

When it comes to the draft, Carthon’s responsibilities with the 49ers were to focus more on the later rounds, where he and San Francisco found success since he came aboard in 2017, according to The Athletic’s David Lombardi.

Carthon will have a greater scope now, but his ability and willingness to uncover gems in later rounds are definitely a plus.

When going down the list, it’s clear Carthon checks all the big boxes for the Titans and is the right man for this job. Let’s hope that translates to success under his watch.
