Rennie was dumped by Jones, and Jones became the Wallabies’ coach.

After Dave Rennie’s resignation on Monday, Eddie Jones, former England coach was named the new Australia coach. He promised to lead them to World Cup glory in France.

After his 2001-2005 stint, during which the Wallabies reached the 2003 World Cup finals, he will now be in the veteran’s second term.

Rennie, a New Zealander, took over from Michael Cheika in the end of 2019 and was sent packing eight months later. Rennie had won just five Test wins last year.

Scott Wisemantel, assistant coaching coach, quit earlier in the month.

Rumours had circulated that Jones, an Australian, might be brought into the Wallabies organization. However, Rennie last week said it would not happen and that he wouldn’t work with Jones.

Jones, who was dismissed by England in December and will begin on January 29th on a contract that will see him through the 2027 World Cup in Australia. It also includes a series of home games for the British and Irish Lions in 2025

Rugby Australia described it as a “world-first” and he will be the head of the national Wallaroos team, as the governing body strives for a professional future in women’s soccer.

Jones stated that Jones’ immediate goal was to win the World Cup in this year.

The 62 year-old said that it was a great opportunity to return to Australia and lead my country to a Rugby World Cup.

“It’s going to be an incredible period for Australian Rugby — as a proud Australian it is a great honor to be able to return home and lead our national team during this time.”

“The Wallabies squad has a lot of talent and good depth.

“If we can get everyone healthy and fit for the World Cup, I believe we can break the 24-year-old drought to win the rugby World Cup.

“I’m really looking forward getting back home and getting to work.”

England fired Jones following their worst year since 2008 when they lost six of 12 Tests. They also had five wins, and a draw.

He explained that the past year had taken its toll on him and that it would be difficult to bounce back to coach another World Cup team.

He added, “If someone approaches me and offers too good to be turned down, then I’ll consider it.”

According to some reports, he was being pursued by several other Test nations including Japan and the United States.

– Hard work –

Hamish McLennan of Rugby Australia said it was a major coup to entice Jones home. He told AFP that he also believed that the Wallabies might win the World Cup.

“Eddie is my partner and I think we can win the World Cup in this year.” It’s a lot of work, but we believe we’ve got a fair chance.” He said, downplaying any worries about England’s decision not to use him due to his track record there.

“No, not at any time. “No, not at all. I believe that life is a process of maturing. I think he’s a better coach today than he was 20 years ago.

“He performs well during World Cups — that’s really crucial for us. Then we have the 27th home World Cup.”

Rennie was linked to the Kobe Steelers in Japan. However, he rejected claims last Wednesday that any deal had been reached.

Andy Marinos, chief of Rugby Australia, paid tribute to Rennie for his “hard work” and “effort”.

“Dave is instrumental in developing much the depth that you see in and around current Wallabies squad,” said he.

Dave provided opportunities for many players that have the potential to be World Cup contenders.

Dave has had a profound impact on the players, influencing the work ethic, team spirit, and overall performance.
