Patricia Routledge is Keeping Up Appearances’ star and has made a rare TV appearance where she talked about the success of the sitcom and the fame it brought to her.

Routledge (93) played the main character Hyacinth, who insists her surname is pronounced “Bouquet”. She was obsessed with her image of being an upper-middle-class woman and was often stopped by her working-class family.

The sitcom ran from 1995 to 1995. Routledge starred in Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, which ran from 1996 through 1998. However, her last acting role came in 2001. She also narrated for TV until 2005.

Routledge has never been in the limelight since she left the spotlight. Fans were surprised to see her look in Keeping Up Appearances, 30 Years of Laughs, a Channel 5 documentary.

Routledge shared her thoughts about landing the role.

She continued to discuss the sitcom’s famous fans, saying that “We were one the Queen Mother’s favourite sitcoms. It was wonderful to know.” And [Queen Elizabeth II] It was a great experience.

“Hyacinth would be flattered beyond words.”

Fans of Keeping Up Appearances loved Routledge’s return to TV for the documentary.

One person tweeted “Really enjoyed the Keeping Up Appearances documentary from Channel 5.” It was so nice to see Patricia Routledge, and other cast members, reminiscing on their time working on this great sitcom.

Routledge’s unforgettable performance as Hyacinth was widely praised, with one person tweeting that “They don’t do shows like this anymore!” It was amazing! #patriciaroutledge was. I can’t think of anyone else playing. #Hyacinthbouquet “I’m calling you from my slimline white push button telephone with last number dial’.

Another writer wrote: “Unfortunately, not enough people talk about Patricia Routledge’s comedy performance in Hyacinth Bucket. Absolute comedy masterpiece.”
