Mets takeaways from Tuesday’s 5-0 loss to Nationals, including an ineffective Jose Butto and offense

Josiah Gray The Nats’ pitcher dominated the Mets. Gray used a combination of fastballs, breaking stuff, and a lot of other pitches to strike out nine batters. The 25-year-old’s final line was: 6 IP (91 pitches), four hits, one walk and those nine strikeouts.

The Mets would make a comeback in the fifth inning. Brett Baty Hit a double with one out that landed on the right-field-line. This was Baty’s only extra-base hit of the season. Luis Guillorme followed with a pop out and Francisco Alvarez Picked up an infield hit. A Brandon Nimmo The bases can be loaded by walking. Starling Marte. The outfielder was struck out by a 3-2 cut out of the zone, ending the inning.

The Nats would break the game open in sixth inning. After a one-out double to Victor Robles, Alex Call Guillorme broke in the wrong direction, allowing the ball spill to the outfield. Luis Garcia Meneses added a third inning run and doubled home two more runs to give the Nats an early 5-0 lead.

Yacabonis, who had just gotten out of the fifth-inning, gave up three runs in sixth. Yacabonis lasted two innings. Tommy Hunter The pitcher pitched a clean, 1.1 inning. Adam Ottavino The Mets relievers ended their nights with the Mets last inning.
