After 6 years, a missing girl was reunited with her father.

On Saturday, a girl who was reported missing six years earlier was found alive and well in North Carolina. Her mother was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping. 

Heather Unbehaun is accused of abducting her daughter Kayla Unbehaun after losing custody. The girl’s last sighting was in South Elgin in Illinois, west of Chicago. She was 9 at the time. An employee at an Asheville used clothing store recognized the mother last week and called police. 

The employee had recognized the pair from an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries,” Asheville Police Department spokesperson Samantha Booth told CNN. Photos of the Unbehauns from the Center for Missing & Exploited Children posters were shown at the end of the episode called “Abducted by a Parent,” which first aired in November 2022.

Heather Unbehaun has been taken into custody on May 13 by Asheville Police officers shortly before 7:30pm. the police department. Kayla Iskerka, who is now 15 years old, was adopted by the North Carolina Division of Social Services, before being reunited with her father Ryan Iskerka.

Unbehaun, who was arrested in North Carolina and booked on a bond of $250,000 with plans to extradite her to Illinois, was taken into custody. Asheville police said. But she was released on bail Tuesday morning 

Records show that she was arrested on Wednesday in Kane County, Illinois. This is where the alleged abduction took place. 

WLS-TV in Chicago reported It was reported that she returned to Kane County by herself and turned herself into police. ABC affiliate reported that she has been released with a bond of $10,000 but is required to wear a GPS tracker.
