NC’s Chip Lindsey takes the lead in high-scoring offense

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina has hired Chip Lindsey from Central Florida as its new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The school announced Thursday the hiring. a week after Phil Longo said he would leave the Tar Heels Jack Bicknell Jr. as offensive line coach at Wisconsin.

Lindsey coached an offense that was ranked 26th in scoring in Bowl Subdivision (34.4) as well as 11th in total offense (480.6) during the last season at UCF. Lindsey previously coached at Auburn, Troy, and UCF.

He will inherit an offense that includes Drake Maye, quarterback named the Atlantic Coast Conference offensive player of the year by The Associated Press.

Wednesday’s announcement from the school indicated that Randy Clements will coach its offensive line following two years at North Texas.
