No. 16 Duke women win 10th straight, beat Clemson 66-56
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Celeste Taylor scored 19 points and No. Clemson was defeated 66-56 by 16 Duke on Thursday evening, marking its 10th consecutive victory.
Duke took a 16-6 lead in the fourth and third quarters, and was leading 58-44 with five minutes to go. Elizabeth Balogun hit two 3-pointers, while Taylor scored four points.
Taylor made six of 14 3-pointers from the floor, and Taylor was 6 out of 14. Shayeann Year-Wilson scored 12 points for Duke, while Vanessa de Jesus added 11. Duke (15-1 Atlantic Coast Conference, 5-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), has won 10 of the last 11 series. Balogun ended the series with eight points.
The Blue Devils scored eleven points from 20 turnovers. They shot 9 of 24 from long distance and 15 of 22 from close range.
Amari Robinson scored 10 out of 16 points in the second quarter to lead Clemson (11-7-2, 2-4). Ruby Whitehorn had scored 12 points, while Hannah Hank had eight and 11 rebounds respectively before fouling out at 1:36.
Duke led 29-26 at halftime after jumping out to a 17-9 lead in the first quarter. Clemson’s 7-2 surge tied the game at 26.
Clemson plays at Pittsburgh on Sunday and Duke plays at Georgia Tech.
