No. 4 UConn defeats Georgetown, but Fudd is again injured

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Aaliyah Edwards scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as No. The second half saw 4 UConn win 65-50 over Georgetown.

Azzi Fudd, leading scorer for the Huskies, suffered a knee injury in the first half and was forced to cancel a scheduled game. Fudd, who had missed the eight previous games due to injury to her knee in December, was back in action for the second time.

“She just tweaked something and they got some ice on it,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma told television network SNY after the game. “It didn’t sound serious at any.”

At the half, the Huskies held a one-point lead. However, they opened the third quarter with a 20-3 run that took control of the game. After three quarters they were leading 44-31. The Huskies used a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter to lead 65-41.

Dorka Juhasz scored 13 points to help the Huskies (15-2-8-0 Big East), while Nika Muhl (and Lou Lopez Senechal) each added 12.

Brianna Scott led Georgetown (8-9-17) with 11 points. Georgetown led UConn with 11 points after one quarter. UConn was forced to make seven turnovers, and Georgetown remained without a basket for more than six minutes. Georgetown was leading 13-11.

Fudd broke a UConn scoring drought when he made a 3-pointer from right baseline to bring the Huskies back into the lead, 14-13.

But she left the court with about 3 minutes left in the half after colliding with Georgetown’s Ariel Jenkins. After halftime, she returned to the court with a bag full of ice on her right knee. She did not play.
