Saint Joseph’s decimates Ramblers: 3 Observations
Ramblers decimated by Saint Joseph’s: 3 Observations Original version: NBC Sports Chicago
Loyola-Chicago’s quest to claim their first ever Atlantic 10 win will have to continue, as they suffered their worst defeat of the season at the hand’s of Saint Joseph’s, with the Hawks dishing them a 86-55 beatdown. Their losing streak has been extended to six games with the loss. They now stand at 6-11 (0-5A10) for the year. These are three observations taken from the game
Ramblers lost at the tip
The Ramblers opened the match in one of most embarrassing ways possible. After the tip went their way initially, it was immediately lost and fumbled by the Ramblers. The Hawks were given the ball. The Hawks won the game with a 11-0 win that ended the game before it could get started. The Ramblers had brief moments of life but were eventually shut down by Hawks. They only managed to score 39.6 % from the field and 56.5 percent from the free-throw lines.
Greer defies scouting report for career night
In the Ramblers’ defense, Lynn Greer III had only made three of his 32 three-point attempts entering today, so it was understandable that they would dare him to shoot from deep early on. Greer saw the Ramblers’ challenge and leveled it out of the water, having an uncharacteristic outburst from beyond the arc. Greer finished the night with 17 points. He was just two shy of setting a career record, and he also made five of six three-pointers.
Alston’s double-double not enough to carry Ramblers
Philip Alston continues to be one of the Ramblers’ bright spots. Alston has tried to keep the Ramblers going despite their difficulties, but it’s not possible. Alston scored 16 points today, making him the only Loyola player with double-digits. Alston had a double-double on defense, with three blocks and 11 rebounds leading all players. He also scored his 1,000th NCAA point.
