Robert Williams was focused on ‘just getting a sense of confidence’ during first game back

 

Robert Williams III is back for the Boston Celtics. His return coincided with an a Celtics lossWilliams and his team saw it as a major milestone in their season.

Williams’ first action since September’s knee surgery, Williams made a few contributions. big dunks Friday night was a great night of defense. The Celtics’ big man scored 7 points and grabbed five rebounds in the final 18 minutes. While he did experience foul trouble in the beginning, his return to court was very promising.

Williams stated that his main focus after the game was to feel comfortable, particularly after scoring his first basket.

“There was a lot of nerves before the beginning of the game,” Williams said. “It was just about getting a sense of confidence.”

As Williams was about to check in at the end of the first quarter, he received loud applause from Celtics fans. Williams was then asked what he was thinking at that time.

“‘Don’t mess up,’” Williams said he told himself. “‘Just calm down a little bit, find a way to help your teammates.’”

The Timelord was also questioned about the moment he experienced comfort for the first time. It came along with a huge alley-oop slam, as is his tradition.

“It was that first dunk, I just need to catch a lob and dunk to be honest. Just to add a sense of confidence.”

Williams regretted not being more defensive in his first game back. He’s said he’s ultimately looking forward to “just getting back into rhythm.”
