Small aircraft crash-land near Buttonville Airport

A small plane was involved in a crash that left it on the road next to Markham Airport, Ont. Monday.

York Regional Police confirmed that a plane was involved in a crash on 16th Avenue. It occurred between Woodbine Ave. (Hwy 404) and Buttonville Municipal Airport.

“Everyone is safe and accounted for at this time,” YRP said in on Twitter after the crash.

Officers ask drivers to stay off 16th Avenue, between Woodbine Avenue & Highway 404.

Two patients were treated by paramedics who said they received an ambulance call shortly after noon. Both of them did not require transport to the hospital.

Transportation Safety Board of Canada, an independent agency that investigates rail, air, and marine transportation incidents, has sent a team of investigators out to gather details about what caused it.

“The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is deploying a team of investigators following today’s accident involving a Slingsby T67C aircraft near Toronto/Buttonville Municipal Airport, Ontario. According to a statement posted on their website, the TSB will collect information and evaluate the incident.

A few hours later, multiple videos were posted online that show the plane colliding with the highway.

A video taken by CP24 and uploaded to Twitter by CP24 shows the aftermath of the accident on the highway. Paramedics were surrounding the plane.

Another dramatic video uploaded to BlogTO Twitter captured the plane’s crash in Markham. It almost hit a car.

It is still not clear why the pilot landed on roadway.
