Storm brought snow to a minimum

Mar. 13—HIGH POINT — By the tale of the meteorological tape, High Point remains without measurable snow for this winter after Sunday’s storm brought little more than a trace of snow and sleet.

Forecasters state that a snowfall must be at least one-tenth inch in order to count as measurable. Brian Slocum (Meteorologist, WXII TV) said that Sunday’s snowfall could be considered a trace.

He stated that there was more rain and snow than any other season. “I don’t know of anyone else who received measurable snow Sunday outside of the mountains.”

If the snow doesn’t fall, it will be the first winter without snow in the city for 30 years.

This week’s temperatures will be too cold for snow, with overnight lows in the 20s this night and Wednesday. However, conditions are expected to remain dry, according to Kathleen Carroll, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Raleigh.

Carroll stated, “Through seven days, the only wintry climate we’re expecting to be”

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), weather conditions will turn around by Friday with temperatures reaching the mid-60s and overnight lows of 50 degrees.

Carroll stated that the window for snow closing is narrower the later it becomes in the month. “But it’s not out of the question. Although the odds are decreasing, there is still a lot of possibility.
