Top 10 Most Hot Tech Leadership Jobs in 2023, up-Levels Drive 34% More Demand

Tech’s Top Search Firm, Christian & Timbers, Forecasts Major RIFs with Simultaneous Up-Levels.

SAN FRANCISCO. January 18, 2023–(BUSINESS WIRE)–A study by Christian & Timbers predicts that there will be a 34% rise in demand for high-level tech leaders in 2023, specifically in the software industry and at the CEO and Board levels.

“Anticipation or uncertainty about a recession has typically significantly reduced the demand for leadership talent. However, we’ve seen the opposite dynamic,” says Jeff Christian, C&T’s CEO.

“CEOs and Boards have moved much faster than expected, first replacing the CRO/CFO. This was almost a preemptive strike to preserve their position. Boards are now looking at ways to improve company performance, whether by replacing or augmenting the CEO. Jeff Christian adds that another dynamic is to look at governance and secure better leadership at Board level in order to quickly improve the company’s operational and strategic strength.”

As expected, there was a slowdown of new C-Suite C-Suite search work from 2022 to 2023. However, there was a 67% increase of new search work in 2022 compared to 2021. Jeff Christian stated that December was the second strongest month in 2018. This leads us to believe that Q1 2023 will be even stronger.

Jeff says, “This is unusual. Companies execute reductions in personnel while simultaneously increasing leveling.”

Having said that, These are the 2023 most sought-after tech leadership jobs:

  1. Women Director: Every year, the demand for female directors in tech is on the rise. #2 for the second year in succession.

  2. Co-CEOSecure a CoCEO: This allows companies to keep their founder or current CEO and still be able to use the CEO title for better candidates.

  3. President and COOCompanies that are struggling to perform will look for ways to enhance and supplement their CEO’s capabilities. If the CEO is not successful, this could be a way to replace him.

  4. Change your CEO The most direct and decisive option. Investors will lose patience with the CEO of Venture- and PE-backed companies that fail to grow profitably and may look for another CEO who can lead them to success.

  5. US President Bolt and UiPath are two of the most popular new technology companies in the world. The next wave of success start-ups will be searching for someone to lead their US operations.

  6. AI CTO The success of companies such as Open.ai which received a $29B start-up valuation will result in a significant rise in investment in new AI companies in 2023. The CTO, who can create great user experiences and drive new innovation in AI, is undoubtedly the most popular job in the segment.

  7. Women Audit Committee Directors They are in high demand but not in sufficient supply, with many of the top board members unable to accept a new seat.

  8. Scale-up Chief Revenue officer: Scale-up CROs are in high demand because many tech companies have missed their numbers in 2022, and expect a worse year in 2023.

  9. Operating CFO A CFO who has led the efforts to an IPO and taken a company public is not as important as the IPO-ready CFO. Companies are searching for CFOs with the ability to streamline operations, reduce costs, integrate acquisitions and manage risk.

  10. Chief Demand Officer Because there are not enough Demand Generation VPs, this is the newest C-Suite title.
