Mississippi State defeats Vols without Two Starters

No. 9 Tennessee (15-3, 5-1 SEC) Mississippi State was defeated (12-6, 1-5 SEC), 70-195, Tuesday at Humphrey Coliseum, Starkville, Mississippi.

Zakai Zeigler was the Vols’ starting point guard and scored a record 24 points in the second half to help them sweep the Bulldogs. His 16 second-half scores were the highest by any Vol in any half of this season.

For Tennessee, Julian Phillips, a freshman forward, scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

Josiah Jordan James scored 13 points for Vols.

Shakeel Moor led the Bulldogs scoring 20 points.

To open the game, the Vols scored 10 points in just 15 minutes. In the second half, Tennessee converted 8 of 9 three-point attempts.

Tennessee’s starters TyrekeKey (illness) and Santiago Vescovi, an injured player, did not play at Mississippi State.
