You Might Run Into an Armadillo, Lizard, or Tortoise at This U.S. Airport — Here’s Why

To greet travelers, animals from Philadelphia Zoo will be making an appearance at the airport.

Philadelphia International Airport’s return to a popular program has been made possible by the city’s zoo.

Due to the pandemic, the monthly program that allows travelers to meet and learn about the Philadelphia Zoo’s critters has been canceled in 2019. However, it has resumed this year.

“The events at airports reflect the city. Although the animals at the airport can vary in size, the zoo says that some of its most frequent visitors include Camilla, an armadillo with three bands, aged 24, Rhonda, 36-years-old, radiated tortoise-eyed tortoise-eyed, and Bili, a skink-like prehensile tail lizard, Bili, who is 23 years old. The zoo shared the fact that it was one the first North American zoos to successfully breed skinks. They are often found in the Solomon Islands, South Pacific.

The zoo’s education team also shared that “they’ve had dozens of amazing encounters with travelers who thank them for being there, like a family traveling from the United Kingdom who said learning about the animals made their long layover worth it, [and] to Philly natives who say they haven’t been to the zoo in years and feel it is time for them to go back.”

The Philadelphia airport has animal experiences. They are located on the airport stage between the food court and terminals B and C.
