1776 Actress Elizabeth A. Davis Welcomes Baby Girl — 1 Day After Her Broadway Show Closed

Elizabeth A. Davis She gave birth to a girl!

The Tony Award nominee, who played Founding Father Thomas Jefferson in Broadway‘s revival of 1776 While she was pregnant, she made public the news about her and her husband’s birth Jordan RichardThe couple has their second child together in an Instagram post shared Friday.

According to the 42-year-old actress, their newborn, Eleanora Joy Richard, was born Jan. 9 — one day after the show’s revival ended its Broadway engagement.

“Eleanora Joy Richard arrived at 8:15 pm on January 9th, just in-time for Scene 3, her favourite scene to dance about,” she joked in the post’s announcement. One picture shows her newborn being held and inspected by a friend while the other image shows Josiah (the couple’s 5-yearold son).

Davis said in the post that Davis waited until the day after closing to show her incredible comedic timing, as her Metaphor Of A Nation role couldn’t be compromised.

She added that the family was “cocooned in exhaustion & muscle soreness from the work of labor & also lots of bliss,” and was enjoying the birth of Eleanora, who she referred to as a “miraculous mercy of God.”

Davis was seven months pregnant when she opened Broadway’s revival. Davis gave birth to her in October. left the role Just before Christmas

Prior to her departure, Davis was celebrated by her castmates — some of them moms — with a baby shower.

“The baby shower was wonderful and brought back many wonderful memories.” 1776 Exclusively, Carolee Carmello spoke to PEOPLE in December.

“I was so happy Elizabeth had that experience. Actors, regardless of what outsiders might think, are supportive and loving people. Carmello said that parents in the business are able to support each other even more as they know the difficulties.

PEOPLE learned from Davis that she was taken by surprise when she found out she was pregnant in October.

Davis said that Davis never meant to be in this situation. “I had two.” [miscarriages] In 2021. “That’s why it was so shocking that I found out that I was actually pregnant.”

She said that Richard and she weren’t likely to try again for another child but she was happy to take on the role. 1776 Pregnancy had a special meaning.

“I knew there was a pregnant woman on stage as Thomas Jefferson, the famous lover who gave rise to the Declaration. [of Independence]She explained that ‘that was exactly what the show was trying to say’ to PEOPLE.

“Historically, [his wife] Davis stated that Martha had a miscarriage at home while Davis was in Philadelphia writing the Declaration. “There are so many layers of complexity on top of each other that the pregnancy just seems … to make it feel like the most unbelievably delicious creative meal I’ve ever been able to partake in.”
