Six of the most realistic Steelers 1st-round choices
They finished the season at 9-8, but were not in the playoffs thanks to their late-season push. It also secured them the No. 17th overall pick in 2023 NFL Draft. If we assume the Steelers learned their lesson from the Devin Bush debacle, they won’t be trading up again. So if we assume Pittsburgh is picking there, here are the five most realistic options to be on the board as of now at each of the team’s six biggest NFL draft needs.
Texas Tech EDGE Tyree Johnson

Tyree Wilson is Texas Tech’s edge rusher. Although Wilson is small, his talent and size make him a good tweener in the Steelers defense.
Georgia OT Broderick Jones
Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports
Broderick Jones is right behind Paris Johnson Jr. as the top offensive tackle prospect in this draft.
Penn State CB Joey Porter Jr.
Joey Porter Jr. is a Penn State cornerback and has a skill set that’s ideal for what the Steelers can do on defense. He also has Steelers blood.
Florida DT Gervon Dexter

Probably the biggest reach of this group of five, Florida’s Gervon Dexter is the next-best big defensive tackle in the draft. He’s a massive lean athlete with lots of room to grow.
Clemson LB Trenton Simpson

Trenton Simpson, a Clemson linebacker who can do it all, is one of my favorite prospects. His ability to impact a defense as an inside linebacker or outside pass rusher gives Micah Parsons vibes and I’m here for all of it.
LSU WR Kayshon Botte

It isn’t likely the Steelers will use that No. It is unlikely that the Steelers will use their 17th overall selection on a wide receiver as Chase Claypool’s replacement, but Kayshon Bootte with his smooth acceleration and effortless speed could be that pick.
