In 2022, the red carpet trend was almost naked.
Heidi Klum is an expert on dressing for the red carpet and this latest appearance proves it.
The model and TV star, 49, dressed to impress at the world premiere for the highly anticipated second instalment of James Cameron’s Avatar.
Klum was stunning in a figure hugging, one-shoulder gown (which also ticked side-boob trends box), but her flowing, water-inspired look reflected (literally and metaphorically) Avatar 2 : The Way of Water, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2009 original.
The structured, yet flowing, ethereal gown was a real trompe l’oeil as the several layers of shimmering semi-sheer fabric made it seem as if Klum was covered in water – and nothing else.
Klum isn’t the first to tackle the trend this year with such aplomb.
After taking off her amazing (if a bit creepy) mask, worm costume at her annual Halloween partyKlum wore a nude jumpsuit, with only a few strategically placed gems. This was to protect her modesty.
America’s Got Talent judge is among a number of celebs who have embraced the near-naked dress trend for 2023.
Fresh from two years of lockdowns and quarantines, red carpet events were back – and bigger than ever. Celebs from all industries participated in the red carpet events.
This year, pulling out all the stops mainly came in the form of bearing pandemic-toned abs and lean legs for many celebs (only I’m sure these famous faces weren’t doing Joe Wicks for the past two years), in barely there, nearly naked numbers.
Designers were more than happy to oblige.
Big-name brands like Valentino and Mugler are cashing in on this trend, whether it’s a show-stopper with only see-through underwear or a sheer number inspired by ice skating with strategically placed embellishments.
From Florence Pugh’s nipple-bearing Valentino gown, to Emily Ratajkowski’s drafty fishnet dress, the nearly naked fashion trend really did reign supreme on the red carpet this year.
Here are the 2023 best looks:
Heidi Klum
Klum’s flowing, one-shoulder gown was designed to look like water flowing over rocks in the river. The model slicked her hair back in a wet style to add to the illusion that she was only covered in water – and nothing else.
Florence Pugh
Florence Pugh’s nipple-bearing Valentino Number caused so much controversy on social media that Pugh felt the need to address the issue. “Listen, I knew when I wore that incredible Valentino dress that there was no way there wouldn’t be a commentary on it,” Pugh wrote on Instagram.
“What’s been interesting to watch and witness is just how easy it is for men to totally destroy a woman’s body, publicly, proudly, for everyone to see,” she continued. “What’s more concerning is…. What’s more concerning is…. Small? Large? Left? Right? There is only one. Perhaps none?” She added. “What. Is. So. Terrifying.”
