Nathan Chen is named Most Valuable Skater in 2023

Nathan Chen was honored with the ISU Awards 2023 Most Valuable Skater on Sunday.
The recognition came one year after the Utah native aged 23 became the first Asian American male figure skater to win gold at Winter Olympics. He had previously won three consecutive World titles.
The ISU spoke on Chen’s accomplishment on Sunday:
Nathan Chen, the 2022 Olympic Champion and three time ISU World Champion has promoted Figure Skating worldwide through his unique achievements. He engages thousands of people on the internet. He is a university student who has recently published his autobiography, telling his story.

Chen was competing against Gabriella Papadakis of France, Guillaume Cizeron of France, and Anna Shcherbakova from Russia for the award.
The French couple have won five World titles, six consecutive European titles, and an Olympic gold and silver (2022 and 2018 in Ice Dance), while Shcherbakova has earned one World title, two European Silvers, four golds at ISU Grand Prix events, and a silver at ISU Grand Prix Final. Shcherbakova was also awarded a World title, two European golds, and a silver at the Winter Olympics.

Chen is currently a Yale student in statistics and data science.
According to reports, he has an a year and a half Continue to work until he earns his degree.
He recently collaborated on a fiction picture book titled “Wei Skates On,” which is expected to be published later this month. It tells the story of a Chinese American boy who discovers a love for skating with the help of his mother — drawing inspiration from Chen’s own life.
