Twitter introduces new rules regarding location sharing

According to a series of tweets outlining the new policySharing the live location is prohibited, unless it’s related to a public engagement or event such as a concert or political event. The announcement stated that sharing an individual’s Twitter live location can increase the risk of physical injury. “Moving forward,” the announcement reads. We’ll delete any tweets sharing this information and account that shares someone else’s location will be removed. These rules do not apply to “someone else’s location.” You can still tweet your location.

However, historical location information is permitted as long as the “reasonable time has passed, so that an individual is not at risk of physical harm.” That part of the policy could leave room for an account like @Elonjet — and while the account was briefly restored this afternoon, at the time of this writing it is once again suspended, as are the personal accounts of Jack Sweeny, the college student who runs @Elonjet.
