Equinor Launches Expo To Bring New Suppliers to Offshore Wind Supply Chain

ALBANY, N.Y. December 14, 2022–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Equinor and partner bp launched the first of three Industry Supplier Expos with an inaugural event in the Capitol Region at Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC), in Troy New York, yesterday. More than 80 manufacturers attended the expo which is designed to help local and regional manufacturers participate in New York’s new offshore wind industry and connect them directly with Equinor and its key suppliers. The Industry Supplier Expos are part of Equinor’s efforts to facilitate the growth and sustainability of a New York-focused supply chain to sell components and services in the offshore wind industry for decades to come. The series is a way for New York businesses and individuals to get involved in the offshore industry. The supplier expos also seek to foster involvement from minority- and women –owned businesses and service-disabled veteran owned businesses.

The Supply Chain Expo offers a unique opportunity for New York-based businesses to learn more about this exciting industry. Equinor, bp and others are dedicated to creating a strong regional supply chain. Offshore wind remains a new area in the United States. These events will allow us to connect with many manufacturers, particularly those from adjacent sectors such as aerospace, maritime and heavy industries, who are well-positioned for the offshore wind ecosystem. Expo attendees had the opportunity to hear from industry leaders and suppliers working with Empire Wind projects. They also participated in “matchmaking” for one-on one information about how they can be part of the supply chain. In 2023, the second and third events for suppliers will be held in New York City and Long Island.

Beacon Wind

Beacon Wind will be developing a 128,000-acre area in federal waters between Cape Cod (Mass.) and Long Island (Mass.). The lease area was purchased in 2019, and is currently being developed in two phases. Beacon Wind 1 is on track to deliver 1.2 GW of renewable energy directly to New York City in the late 2020s – enough to power 1 million homes.
