Brazil’s Lula eyes commerce deal between Mercosur and China

(Reuters) – Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva mentioned on Wednesday that he favored an settlement between the South American commerce bloc Mercosur and China.

On a go to to Uruguay to dissuade its authorities from reaching a deal by itself with China, which might undermine the Mercosur customs union, Lula mentioned he agreed with the necessity to modernize and “open” Mercosur to different areas. He mentioned the long-due Mercosur accord with the European Union have to be accomplished urgently.
