Canelo Alvarez frustrated despite victory as gutsy John Ryder lasts distance

Canelo Alvarez I was forced into a points win against a bloody and gutsy John Ryder At a loud and raucous Mexican Homecoming.

Canelo retained his undisputed Super-middleweight World Championship in front of around 50,000 fans in the Akron Stadium, Guadalajara.

The British fighter, covered in blood after a suspected fractured nose, won the morale battle after recovering from an intense knockdown during the fifth round.

Ryder was denied a second chance to win the world title in 2019 after losing a hard-fought battle with Callum Smith. However, he has a great deal of credit for his performance after 12 tough rounds.

Canelo continues to show signs of his declining performance despite his recent victory over Gennady Glovkin after a loss to Dmitry Bivol in the light-heavyweight division.

Bivol is likely to relish a probable rematch later this year with the Mexican’s output fading in the closing stages of tonight’s fight.
