Chargers may be in a position to rest starters against the Broncos

Brandon Staley, Chargers head coach, said that he had no plans to rest starters for the Week 18 matchup against the Broncos. On Wednesday, however, his tone changed.

Los Angeles may have a new approach to the season finale, with the NFL moving up the match between the Ravens and Bengals. L.A. can secure the fifth seed if Cincinnati beats Baltimore even if Denver loses.

Initial plans were for the contests to begin at 1 pm PT. The kickoff time for the Ravens and Bengals is now at 10 AM PT.

“Once we find out about that game, then we’ll make the appropriate decisions moving forward,” Staley said.

It would be ideal if the Chargers were able to afford to take some of their top players off for at least the majority of the game.

Now finally close to full health and they’ve shown to play at a high level during their four-game win streak with a nearly complete roster, Los Angeles could be a threat come playoff time.

L.A. will then know its opponent by Saturday evening, and the winner between the Jaguars and Titans will be the AFC South’s fourth seed. Kickoff is scheduled for Jan. 7 at 5:15 PM PT.
