Chelsea keeper undergoes surgery for a fractured finger

Since the 12 November loss to Newcastle, Edouard Mendy was not able to play for Chelsea.

Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy had surgery to repair a fractured finger that he sustained in training this week.

30-year-old Senegal keeper Hassan Aboubakar has not played since his return from the World Cup. This was due to a shoulder injury sustained in Qatar which saw them lose in the 16th round to England.

Spain’s Kepa Arizabalaga has taken over for Chelsea in the past three matches.

After Thursday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, Chelsea is now ranked 10th in Premier League.

They will face City in the FA Cup third round at 16:30 GMT on Sunday. The match will be live on BBC One, BBC iPlayer, and BBC Sport.
