China slaps anti-dumping levy on import of a US chemical amid rising commerce tensions

BEIJING, April 19 (Reuters) – China on Friday slapped a levy on imports of an acid from the US broadly utilized in meals, feed, pesticides and medical fields, amid heightened tensions with Washington over bilateral commerce.

From Saturday, imports of propionic acid from the US will probably be topic to a levy of 43.5%, the Ministry Of Commerce stated in an announcement, after a July investigation discovered the Chinese language home propionic acid business was “materially broken.”

A commerce dispute between the world’s two largest economies has been intensifying regardless of current diplomatic visits.

In a current salvo, the U.S. threatened to hike its tariffs on Chinese language metal imports, and is pressuring Mexico to ban China from promoting its steel merchandise to the U.S. not directly from there.
