Chris Lane I love living on the green.

Speaking with PEOPLE about competing in the 2023 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions — where celebrities play alongside LPGA Tour winners, competing for a combined $2 million — Lane said he’s become “absolutely obsessed” with the sport.

Lane tells PEOPLE that she loves golf and started it five, six years ago. “I grew up playing baseball and football. I was always competitive. But now I can’t play them, I have turned to golf. I didn’t realize how much I would love it.”

The country singer, a father of two, is thrilled to share his passion with his sons, Baker (3 months) and Andre, (3 years). Dutton Walker19-month-old, who he shares with his wife Lauren Bushnell Lane.

He laughs and says, “My goal was to make the boys PGA tour star, but they’re just going to have to take after my father,” adding that he understands that this is a game where you either win or lose yourself, and doesn’t rely on anyone else.

Lane is also attending the event as a family member. Lane shares that Lane’s twin brother is helping me out and that my father-in law is also there. “Then, my wife plans to come for a few days if she’s able, her mom will take care of them right away.

He reflects on the challenges of leaving his family for a few hours. “It’s difficult to leave with a newborn. “He is not really taking the bottle great right now,” says the dad. She is 50/50. But her plan is to return for a few more days.

Despite the fact that they have had some difficulties since welcoming Baker into their home, the Lanes are beaming with joy. Even though it has been a tough transition for them, the father admits that “it’s been an adjustment” to their new lifestyle.

It’s been a adjustment. It’s clear. Lane states that Dutton isn’t getting enough rest and that it has been a difficult adjustment.

Lane says, “I think his life has been rocked a bit. But, you know, we are 12 weeks into now. He’s adapting to it. It’s getting easier.”

Baker went to the emergency room earlier this month after a frightening trip. The couple found out that he had pneumonia. RSV.

Lane shared that “fortunately everyone is doing well now, but it was definitely scary few days there with them both,” Lane said. Baker ended up in the hospital, not breathing well but he is a fighter. He was able to get out of the hospital and is doing well.

They are still in a newborn haze and don’t know where the future will take them.

“I think that two is enough considering how tired we are right at the moment, but I also believe Lauren is wanting a girl,” he says.

“So I wouldn’t surprise if we don’t try for another one eventually, but it is something that I pray the good God above does not permit to happen anytime soon,” he laughs.

After a busy 2022 Lane is looking forward to a few slow months with his family and working on his songwriting skills before he gets back into gear.

“I am going to take some time off in early part of the year. I have been writing as much as I can. I will then go on tour and release a record. He says that this will be my third album and that he wants to do it right.

While he is eager to hear the next music, he enjoys every minute at home with Lauren.

He says, “I’m happy to spend a bit of time at my home since I’ve been traveling so much. Just lay low for a minute.”

He can always play golf until he’s ready for another album. “I love the camaraderie here and watching the LPGA Tour players play. I have never been able go on a tour since I have always been touring.
