DLR Group Announces New Leaders

With a new fiscal year, firm elevates employee-owners into key leadership positions.

To help the firm fulfill its promise to improve the human experience by designing, CEO Steven McKayRIBA, LEED AP announced the recent appointments of several senior officials design and operational leaders.

“Leadership transition is an integral part of our culture at DLR Group, and vital to the strategic growth of the firm,” said McKay. “As DLR Group has grown to 10 core sectors of expertise and more than 1,400 employees a strong leadership team is essential to deliver design excellence for our clients around the world.”

Peter Rutti, Senior Principal, AIA, NCARB has been named chief design officer. He succeeds McKay. He is nationally recognized as an expert in the planning and design of performing arts and cultural institutions and has led the firm’s internal Design Forum for the past three years.

Premnath, Senior Principal, AIA, CEM was elected to the position of chief climate officer. Previously the firm’s applied research leader, Sundharam will lead the energy services, high performance design, smart buildings, and sustainability teams, and will guide the firm’s commitments to positively impact climate change.

Heather Galvin, Senior Associate, was promoted to chief information officer. DLR Group hired her in 2015 to provide information management systems and technology solutions to design teams. She will serve as CIO, leading a team of business solutions and cyber security specialists across the firm.

Rutti, Sundharam, and Galvin also join the firm’s execute leadership team along with Senior Principal and Global Higher Education Leader Stuart Rothenberger, AIA, LEED AP; and California Region Leader and Senior Principal Pamela Touschner, FAIA. The DLR Group Executive Team is enhanced by the expertise and insights of Rothenberger, and Touschner.  DLR Group’s employee-owners elected Touschner to DLR Group’s Board of Directors in October 2022.

Erica Loynd FAIA was named the leader for the Northwest region. Loynd, who works from Seattle will manage the operations of a practice worth $37 million and 150 design professions within the Seattle, Portland and Honolulu office. She has nearly two decades of experience with DLR Group as a key leader in the firm’s Justice+Civic studio.

McKay announced additional appointments to McKay’s Advisory Board to DLR Group Board of Directors. The advisory board, which consists of seven members, meets quarterly with the board. The board is provided with additional insight and perspective by the diversity of its members. In 2023, Principal Jason Majerus (PE, CEM) and mechanical engineering leader; Architect Ronok Doolen Nichols (AIA, LEED AP); and Senior Principal Jeremy Reding (AIA, WELL AP, global workplace leader) will join the advisory board.
