In a 3-2 win over Canadiens, Ducks get on track with their power play

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mason McTavish and Jakob Silfverberg scored power-play goals in the third period and the Anaheim Ducks extended their point streak to five games, beating the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 on Friday night.

Anaheim is also led by Jayson Megna, who scored for Anaheim. The streak has been 4-0-1. John Gibson stopped 26 shots.

Jonathan Drouin scored a goal and assisted Nick Suzuki, who also scored for Montreal. Sam Montembeault was able to save 30 times. The Canadiens dropped two straight games and three of their previous four.

Anaheim entered the game on the power play last in league with a 15.6% conversion and was 1 for 17. In the previous five games, Anaheim was 1 to 17.

Midway through the third period, the Ducks finally found their stride thanks to the man advantage. McTavish scored with a one-timer in the right faceoff circle from Cam Fowler’s pass to make it 2-1. This was McTavish’s 14th goal of this season, and his team-leading seventh power play goal. He has now scored a point in his last three games.

Silfverberg’s goal was the decisive one with five minutes left. His wrist shot passed Montembeault, with plenty of traffic in front.

Suzuki brought the Canadiens within 30 seconds of the end after they pulled their goaltender.

Montreal scored at 76 seconds in the game. Drouin was the one to tip in the puck in the crease, after Mike Matheson’s shot had gone through Gibson’s legs. Drouin scored his first goal in 45 games since last season.

Megna tied it 3 minutes later, scoring a wrist shot in front the net from Max Comtois’ pass. Johnathan Kovacevic from Montreal partially got his stick onto the pass, but was unable clear it. Megna’s second goal this season.
